Itch is a caused by a number of different medical conditions including contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, kidney dialysis, and diabetes. Some forms of acute itch can be treated with antihistamines or corticosteroids. However, the majority of patients with severe and/or chronic itch do not receive adequate relief of their symptoms with current therapies.
Our clinical candidate for itch, NCT-10004, is being developed for treatment of severe contact dermatitis resulting from poison ivy or poison oak exposure. Approximately 15 million patients a year in the United States suffer from this condition, and in many cases the itch is debilitating.
